Despite the changes from in-person to virtual on to blended learning, the SCIS class of 2020 was able to achieve incredible results this year. They recorded the highest International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme pass-rate in school history, achieved an average score that was 4 points higher than the world average, and attained another perfect score.
Outstanding International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Results
Fifty-five students sat this year’s IB exam in May, achieving a remarkable 95% pass rate, with 52 students awarded the full IB diploma. Of the full diploma candidates, 51% earned bilingual diplomas. Our average IB score of 34 out of a possible 45 was well above the world average of 29.9 for May 2020, with an impressive 8 students scoring above 38.
Unlike many IB schools around the world, SCIS does not pre-select students for entry into the IB Diploma. Rather, we encourage all seniors to take the opportunities provided by this, challenging but rewarding, program.
Our students experienced success and posted highly competitive results under challenging circumstances. We even posted the third 45 (perfect score) in school history. A feat made even more remarkable as only 141 students out of the nearly 70,000 exam takers in the world, or 0.21%, realized this score. These results are a true testament to our ability to deliver our program of learning despite the disruption in the spring. A true reflection of the approaches established in the Middle Years Programme and honed throughout the Diploma Programme.
Prepared for the future
Following this academic success, the SCIS Class of 2020 is ready to attend top universities and colleges around the world. Graduates will be heading to some of the world’s leading programs this year with acceptances coming in from top universities in 12 countries around the world.
